Chiodos April 28, 2013 - Photograph by Lisa Johnson Rock Photographer.

Chiodos has signed with Razor & Tie Records and have started working on a new album that will be released on their own accord. The band now consists of original members Craig Owens, Bradley Bell, Derrick Frost, Matt Goddard, Pat McManaman and ex-Fall Of Troy/Just Like Vinyl guitarist Thomas Erak. Chiodos is excitied and pleased with Razor & Tie and their future record, keyboardist Bell made this statement about signing with the label,

There needs to be more labels like Razor & Tie out there. I feel like they actually understand the bands motives and will do what it takes to help us present our vision. It’s going to be a fun adventure that we are about to embark on with them.

Chiodos Used Hacking to Rise to Fame?

A recent story has popped up about Chiodos and how they got signed on the site Property of Zack. Check it out below:

Way back in December of 2003, an awesome website called MP3.com was shutting down. At the time, this was the legal, free music-sharing service, popular with independent musicians for promoting their work. If you were a band and had songs, you uploaded those to MP3.com. When the site shut down, others stepped in to fill the void created.

One that rose very quickly to the top was PureVolume.com. You had to re-upload your music there, or be a dinosaur. They had a Top 15 Artist Per Plays, Per Day chart on the front page. It would change throughout the day, but if you got on that, group-thinking on the internet would kick in and you would get even more hits/plays/exposure, from kids seeing you rank high and then listening to your audio player. I noticed most of the bands in the Top 15 were bands I’d never heard of, all getting unbelievable stats. This was even before the more established bands of the time had PureVolume pages.

Being a new site, PureVolume didn’t have the best fraud preventions built in to protect their player stats. There’s a list of things they did wrong that allowed bands to maximize plays by cheating. As long as the song started to buffer, it counted as a play. So if your band had five songs, you could increase your play count by five in about five seconds. Have five other members? Coordinate through AIM and get 30 plays just like that.

This part is a little fuzzy, but I think at first, you could just reload your page, and start playing each song for additional plays. I just automated that “Reload, click, pause, click, etc.” with a script or macro or something simple like that. That alone was getting us on the charts. Number 1? Maybe at times. When they fixed the “reload” and “play again” prompts, it would only count one play per song, per IP address. This was actually nice. Less competition from the cheaters that just did it manually. To get around this, I just modified the script to switch to a different open proxy before reloading. Different IPs, more plays.

What do you think of it?

The band Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows released the following statement that their bassist, Adam Russell was leaving the band:

It is with bittersweet sentiment that we announce some news today. Our bass player, Adam Russell, has made the personal decision to move on from Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows to pursue other opportunities. While we are happy to see him make a choice that will ultimately be best for him, of course, we are sad to see him go. Please know that we remain close friends and supporters of Adam, and that there are no hard feelings.

Rest assured this will not affect our current tour schedule. Our close friend, Tai “Never Wrong, Always” Wright, will be filling in on bass duties on the upcoming SIN Tour which starts Thursday in Chicago. Go to our Facebook page for dates & ticket links: Facebook.com/DRUGS

Much love,

Craig Owens Announces Solo Holiday Shows!

Craig Owens (Vocalist- D.R.U.G.S.) has announced a small string of holiday solo shows that, according to Owens, will be his “last solo shows for awhile.” due to working on new material with D.R.U.G.S.  Check Out Craig’s post and the tour dates below:

Now, I know that they have been previously announced a few times.. However, I’m still getting quite a few questions about whether or not I’ll be having holiday shows to end out 2011.

The answer is, YES! YES! YES!

I couldn’t be more excited to play these shows, as they will be my last few solo shows for a while (will be working on new D.R.U.G.S material). So, please come out, bring your singing voices, smiles, and let’s have a great, worry-free time.

Below are the dates / info + links to get your tickets online. The last 9 out of 11 solo shows that I’ve played have sold out, so PLEASE be sure to get them early. I always feel really bad when I hear people travel, and can’t get in.

Also, there WILL be themes for each show announced via my twitter the week of Dec 12th! (Ex: Ugly Christmas Sweater Party, etc). In addition: I’ll be adding meet & greet details, and special contests running from now until the shows as well.

See you guys in a couple of weeks!!

-Craig.
